The winter vacance is over and the French are back to the season of strikes and demonstrations. I have seen many of these and I must tell you. You may be right but you are doing it all wrong.
I just came back from making a story about the retired people in Marseilles I was expecting to see elderly people some even very old in wheel chairs to see people that are really badly threated. However what I actually saw was healthy most of them overweighted people carrying signs of the unions rather than their own problems. i have seen an advertising for the CGT, CDFT and the rest of the unions. The same thing saw all the people I the streets of Marseilles. Lets put it this way: Retired people have no power over companies or over the government. But they have power over the public, and the public has a power over the government. The demonstration was for the right cause done wrong. It shows people well protected by the unions, they were well dressed most of them looks really good, after all French retires very young. This demonstration didn't show the right pictures and the unions are not aware of the damage they causes the cause in front of the public. You remember the farmer that cried in the TV broadcast less them a week ago he showed what he felt he didn't show power he showed frustration and misery, when you are frustrated and miserable SHOW it don't show power. The SNCM are striking because the government is taking their monopoly away (yes monopoly is bad to us the people that live in France) so what do they do ? strike and causes damage to their own company instead of improving the service. Those people that were effected by the strike will run to the competitors. Not really smart. And I have seen Sarkozy taking to the unionist on the TV. Sarkozy said that the government gave up on the professional tax to go toward the investors. But he didn't ask the unionist "and what did the unions do to go toward the investors ?" because he knew that the result will be strike all over France. Now the workers of Philips are wondering why Philips close down ? it is not profitable for them so they close down, to strike now will be stupid they just prove Philips that they are right to close it. While they should have try to be more flexible. You see strike is a tool but the French use it to shoot their own legs often !

the problem is that these things france keep loosing will be hard to regain, and the relative economical balance will change very fast. france have to move forward and stop looking at the past. language is the same issue, French refuse to accept english is the official language of the EU and an international language. they keep on telling me "in the past french was supposed to be an international language..." thats a problem

Entre nous, Veritas, pourquoi vous vous plaignez alors que vous comprenez parfaitement l'anglais et que vous commentez l'article d'Amit dans cette langue?
D'autres rédacteurs ne comprennent pas l'anglais mais, contrairement à vous, soit ils essayent de le traduire ou soit ils ne commentent pas l'article...

I was an "Erasmus Student" 4 years ago. When I met all the students from all over the world, I realized how English langage was important, and how I was so bad, compared to the Sueden, Polisch, German, ... It's really good to learn a new langage, it gives to yourself, an another point of vue. French people are to proud of them past, and they can't go one if they don't recognize some bad points of them history.

Je ne vois aucun probleme à lire des articles en anglais, mais si l'auteur ou nos sympathiques benevoles pouvaient corriger syntaxe et les nombreuses fautes d'orthographe (plus d'une par ligne), cela rendrait la lecture plus agreable
... Veritas, pourriez-vous traduire votre commentaire qui est en Allemand ? Je suis certain que l'auteur de cet article, mais également les commentateurs, ne comprennent pas cette langue... Au fait, puisque vous semblez écrire et lire l'Hébreu, il serait bon que vous traduisiez également vos deux commentaires qui sont en hébreu ! Merci d'avance !

Je ne commenterais pas en anglais sachant que je ne sais pas parler anglais. PAr contre sur cette situation je suis tout a fait d'accord, la France a beaucoup de points obscurs dans son histoire, tant au niveau humain que politique...D'ailleurs il n'y a pas besoin de remonter loin dans l'histoire pour s'en rendre compte, les scandales financiers de nos dernières années sont là pour le montrer, la seconde guerre mondiale egalement. Autant que Chirac avait entammé un devoir de mémoire dans par exemple la déportation dans les camps de concentration ainsi que la participation de l'Etat dans ces convois, Sarkozy, lui se fait un devoir non pas de regarder en arrière pour assumer les erreurs mais toujours vers l'avant pour ignorer ce qu'il se passe et ce qu'il s'est passé. Comme ca, rien ne changera finalement, les magouilles etc resteront toujours.

Bien sûr que je comprends et sais parler l'anglais, et c'est pour cela que j'apprécie l'article d'Amit, que toi (tu me tutoies, donc je fais pareil !) tu n'apprécies pas par contre, pour oser demander à Dominique de retirer cet article...

Me concernant, j'apprécie les articles d'Amit (que je ne commente pas toujours, certes) et je ne suis pas le seul car plusieurs commentateurs sont déjà venus donner leurs idées EN ANGLAIS, (je n'ai alors pas compris ce qui vous dérangeait puisque vous comprenez parfaitement l'anglais et vous le parlez...)

C'est vrai c'est moi qui l'ai écrit. Je vais préciser un peu plus si ça peut éviter des malentendus. J'ai écrit cela pour ainsi dire que je ne maitrisais pas l'anglais aussi bien que d'autres reporters sur C4N et donc que je risquais plus de faire des fautes que de m'exprimer correctement, et que par ailleurs je ne voulais pas non plus me casser la tête à traduire au moment où j'ai écrit le commentaire. Cependant cela ne veut pas dire que je ne suis pas capable de comprendre le moindre mot d'un texte écrit en anglais. Quant à utiliser un traducteur, parfois(pour ne pas dire toujours) il y a des imperfections de traduction, et c'est ce qui fait la subtilité des langues bien sûr.
