La Paedophryne amauensis est une nouvelle espèce qui fut découverte il y a très peu de temps. En effet, on doit cette découvert à l'herpétologiste Christopher Austin début janvier 2012. Le but de son expédition était au départ d'observer et comprendre la biodiversité de la faune et la flore de la Papouasie Nouvelle Guinée. Lors du dénombrement des espèces, lui et son équipe ont fait une découverte fascinante pour l'ensemble de la communauté scientifique, la Paedophryne amauensis!!!

De plus, il faut noter que la Paedophryne amauensis évolue essentiellement sur la terre ferme et non dans l'eau. Il est d'ailleurs très difficile de l'observer puisqu'elle évolue dans les sous bois des forêts primaires et reste cachée sous les feuilles mortes. De plus, pour pouvoir écouter son cri si strident, il faut se lever de bonne heure... En effet, vous ne pourrez l'entendre qu'à l'aube naissante.

Christopher Austin a décidé de la nommer ainsi compte tenu de son lieu de découverte, à savoir un petit village de Papouasie Nouvelle Guinée appelé Amaun. Ce village est situé à environ 180 mètres d'altitude.

Et voilà, encore une fois la nature nous surprend... Beaucoup de nouvelles espèces ont vue le jour ces dernières années. Il va de soi que si nous souhaitons continuer à avoir la chance d'en découvrir de nouvelles, il faut absolument respecter leur environnement naturel, dans ce cas précis, le déboisement serait un facteur décisif dans la survit de l'espèce...
